Battle of the Somme Centenary Commemorations – Website Design

Working with long-term client HPower and on behalf of the government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Red Giant was commissioned to undertake the website design for the official commemoration events for the centenary of the Battle of the Somme in 2016. Having visited the Thiepval memorial in northern France to understand the sense of place, and undertake current-day photography, Red Giant designed and developed the responsive website with full CMS facility, in two languages, and integrated with SeeTickets’ back-end to enable the public ballot and ticketing to operate seamlessly. Huge traffic volume necessitated a dedicated host server, with constant monitoring during periods of intense activity. Following the success of the site, Red Giant was then asked to repeat the process for the centenary events in 2017 surrounding the Battle of Passchendaele near Ypres.
